HCG Weightloss Q & A

WHAT IS HCG DIET?

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HCG WEIGHT LOSS WHICH IS PROMOTED THROUGH THE HCG DIET.

The HCG diet is one of the oldest, most trusted diets as it was first proposed in the 1950’s by a British Doctor, Albert Simeons.

As the name suggests, this diet involves the use of HCG. HCG is a hormone that is known as the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Hormone and it is naturally present in pregnant women. This hormone helps in the growth and development of the fetus.

The HCG diet is basically a caloric deficit diet which consists of the following two things:

  1. A low-calorie diet with about 500 calories per day.
  2. Administration of the HCG hormone.

Administration of HCG hormone

The HCG hormone is usually taken via injection but now there are many pellets, sprays and drops available in the market as well.

While HCG via injection is said to be the most effective HCG drops for weight loss are becoming an increasingly popular choice due to their convenient administration.

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT FASTER ON THE HCG DIET?

The low caloric intake already ensures caloric deficit which leads to HCG weight loss. This is further aided by the HCG hormone as it reduces hunger while taking care of muscle loss and treat other hormone imbalances. HCG weight loss is supported by redistribution of body fat from the stomach, thighs and hips. According to sources trusted by FDA, this diet can also fix abnormal eating habits and reset the body’s metabolism.

HCG DIET PROTOCOL

THE HCG DIET COMPRISES OF 5 DIFFERENT PHASES

Phase Zero- Pre-diet Cleanse
This phase is also known as the detox phase. Although it is not necessarily needed but a good cleanse can get your body ready for the diet phase. This can be done by adopting healthy habits such as elimination of processed food from diet.

Phase One
In the first two days of this phase, the fat and caloric intakes are increased by focusing solely on high fat foods. You are also required to consume the HCG hormone during this time.

The main objective of this phase is to hinder the body’s fat storage. This is done by the HCG hormone as it stops the accumulation of fat in your body and starts the lipid mobilization process.

Phase Two
Phase two starts from the third day and this is when you will start with the 500 calories per day routine, which we will mention further. The HCG administration will also continue in this phase.

The second phase is said to be a little tough as the duration of this phase is largely dependent upon the amount of weight you have to lose. The minimum doses of HCG recommended are 23 if you want to lose 15 pounds. The maximum one can take in the second phase are 40 doses.

The specific dosage amount should be carefully administered after consultation with your dietitian or doctor. After completing the HCG dosage, you have to remain on the 500-calorie diet for three days.

Phase Three
This phase lasts for around three to four weeks. This is when you have to maintain your weight and you can do it by adding some dietary variations which include cutting starches and sugars. It is suggested to avoid milk and high fat foods as well.

After twenty-three days, minimum, you can shift to a new round of HCG intake or you will step into the last phase of the diet.

Phase Four
The last phase of the HCG diet is all about maintaining your weight. You will have to consume around 1,500 to 2000 calories per day and you’re your dietitian can assist you with the ideal intake level of intake.

Focus on eating clean, healthy and unprocessed food to maintain your weight.

HCG DIET PLAN

The HCG meal plan primarily focuses on the 500-calorie intake. This drastic decrease of daily caloric intake ensures rapid weight loss.

According to the original Dr. Simeons guideline, this plan includes two meals a day.

Breakfast

For breakfast, you can have unlimited cups of tea or coffee as it keeps you energetic throughout the day. You can sweeten your beverage of choice with stevia or saccharin and just one tablespoon of milk.

Lunch and Dinner on the HCG Diet

You will have lunch and dinner at regular times and the food to be eaten during that time can be selected from a list of specific foods as the meal choices are somewhat limited in a 500 calorie per day plan.

For lunch and dinner, you can have one 100-gram serving of any meat product which includes chicken breast, veal, lobster, shrimp, crab, beef or fresh white fish. All visible fat must be removed before cooking the meat. The 100 grams of meat should be the raw weight of the meat excluding its fat.

One vegetable can also be chosen from the given list. Asparagus, green salad, celery, cabbage, spinach, chard, chicory, red radishes, beet-greens, cucumbers, fennel, tomatoes and onions. Most of the green vegetables can be consumed in this diet.

You can also have one breadstick or Melba toast. To complete the meal, you can select one fruit from an apple, a handful of strawberries, half a grapefruit or an orange.

The breadstick or the fruit can also be eaten as a snack between meals.

ADDITIONAL HCG DIET FOODS

Apart from the regular lunch and dinner foods, the HCG meal plan lets you have the juice of a single lemon every day. While making your meals you are allowed to utilize type of spice, vinegar and garlic but you cannot use butter, oil, or any type of dressing.

The diet permits you to drink water, tea and coffee in any quantity throughout the day. It is mostly recommended by dietitians to consume at least two liters of water every day.

Examples of HCG Meal Plans

As we have a specific number of calories allotted to us for this diet plan we present to you a variety of delicious recipes so that no one gets fed up with the diet and leave it halfway.

For lunch, you can have a piece of cooked/grilled chicken with apple chicken salad. The salad can include a chopped celery and apple, mixed with lemon juice, nutmeg, salt, cardamom and stevia to taste.

For dinner, you can try having roasted white fish paired along with pickles made from cucumbers, vinegar, salt, garlic and lemon juice, and salt.

If you are having a hard time coming up with recipes that bring an additional flavor to your meat and vegetables, you can try making HCG-friendly marinades and sauces.

A dressing sauce can be made by mixing fresh dill, vinegar, lemon juice, salt and Old Bay seasoning. Or you can also make your own mustard from mustard powder, onion powder, garlic powder, vinegar, ginger, water, stevia and lemon juice.

FINAL VERDICT

The HCG diet is an age-old diet that is extremely beneficial for weight loss and can definitely help those people who are having a very hard time in shedding those extra kgs.

HCG weight loss has been here for six decades and is widely acclaimed and supported by dietitians and doctors but it does come with some minor precautions and side effects like any beneficial medicine as well.

It can lead to fatigue, headache and nausea at times, especially if not followed carefully. It is also not advised to be followed by women who are pregnant as they are already producing the HCG hormone for their child and it is generally not advised for pregnant women to follow any diet at all.

Having said that, any diet you decide to follow should be done after a detailed discussion with your dietitian as they know your medical history and can prescribe what’s best suited for you according to your current condition.
